Before installation please check that the below system requirements are met. You can ask your webhoster if the server you are working on supports them. You can also find the information in the Joomla! backend under Help > System info.
- Joomla! 1.5.x or Joomla! 2.5.x
- PHP 5.0.x or higher, PHP 5.2 recommended, but not PHP 5.0.4 or PHP 5.1.6
- PHP module mb_strlen() (ask your hoster)
- MySQL 5.0.x or higher
Preparations
- If your website will eventually not be English (default in Joomla!), install the correct language files now
- Create a full backup of the website. You can use Akeeba Backup to create a quick one
- Upgrade to the latest version of Joomla!
Installing ccNewsletter
Installation of ccNewsletter is rather easy, and the same as most Joomla! extensions.
- Download the extension from the ccNewsletter downloads on our website
- Login to your Joomla! website administrator
- For Joomla! 1.5 go to Extensions > Install/Uninstall and for Joomla! 2.5 go to Extensions > Extensions Manager
- Select browse, in the "Upload Package File" section
- Find and select the ccNewsletter .zip file on your computer
- Click on "Upload file & Install"
- ccNewsletter should now be installed and visible under Components > ccNewsletter
After the installation, please continue with the ccNewsletter manual, about adding support for the extensions you want to use.
Uninstalling ccNewsletter
If, for whatever reason, you want to uninstall ccNewsletter, it can be easily done by following the below steps.
- Login to your Joomla! website administrator
- For Joomla! 1.5 do to Extensions > Install/Uninstall > Components and for Joomla! 2.5 go to Extensions > Extensions Manager > Manage
- Find ccNewsletter and check the checkbox
- Click "Uninstall" in the top right
- ccNewsletter is now uninstalled. Please note that some files and tables in the database are not removed by the uninstall, so you can install ccNewsletter again later, without losing that data.
Updating and upgrading ccNewsletter
Updating means moving to a new patch/bug fix release version of a software product (x.x.X, from ccNewsletter 1.2.1 to ccNewsletter 1.2.2 for example). You can view changes in a certain new version in the extensions changelog. You can update to new ccNewsletter patch update (x.x.X) without hesitation. We do advice creating a backup with Akeeba Backup.
Updating (moving from ccNewsletter 1.2 to ccNewsletter 1.3 for example) to new minor/feature release version (x.X.x) of ccNewsletter can also be done without hesitation. You can view changes in a certain new version in the extensions changelog. We do advice creating a backup with Akeeba Backup.
Upgrading (moving from ccNewsletter 1.2 to ccNewsletter 2.0 for example) to new major/feature release version (X.x.x) of a software product should never be done without extensive testing and research. You can view changes in a certain new version in the extensions changelog. You will need to make sure that the extension can (a) upgrade current data to the new version and (b) still functions as you need it to. If it does not, you could consider staying on the current version you are using for a little bit longer. Look for a post with this information on our blog.
Updating and upgrading Joomla!
Updating means moving to a new patch version of a software product (x.x.X, from Joomla! 1.5.23 to Joomla! 1.5.24 for example). You can update to new Joomla! patch updates (x.x.X) without hesitation. We do advice creating a backup with Akeeba Backup and updating with Admin Tools.
Upgrading (moving from Joomla! 1.5 to Joomla! 2.5 for example) to new major versions (X.x.x or x.X.x) of a software product should never be done without extensive testing and research. You will need to make sure that ccNewsletter support the new version of Joomla! and/or the extension before continuing.
Upgrading from spsNewsletter
Install the ccNewsletter component in your Joomla! website next to spsNewsletter as explained above. Check whether ccNewsletter has copied all your subscribers, configuration details and newsletters. If so, just delete the old spsNewsletter component and module, all information is now migrated to ccNewsletter.
