MAJOR security update for Joomla 1.5 and up!

Joomla!

On 14 December 2015, the Joomla project announced a new security vulnerability affecting all current versions of Joomla 1.5 through 3.4.5. This vulnerability has been detected in the wild, has been fully documented publicly, and remains an active threat to the security and integrity of most Joomla websites.

Improved extension updates in Joomla! 3.4 (with video)

Joomla!

Joomla! 3.4 was released in February and it’s a solid update! One of the improvements in the new version is what people like to call “Extension beta testing“. In my extensions you might know this as the “Minimum stability” dropdown in the configuration. I’ve made a little video to show you what the new dropdown is all about, and why it is super smart to set it up.

End of Joomla! 2.5 & how to move to Joomla! 3

Migrate ccNewsletter, ccInvoices, cciDEAL to Joomla! 3

If you are using ccNewsletter, ccInvoices or cciDEAL on your Joomla! 1.5 or Joomla! 2.5 website, it’s a good time to start planning the move to Joomla! 3 for all websites that are still on older Joomla! versions. Official support for Joomla! 2.5 ends in 2014. Luckily we have a manual that explains how to move our extensions to Joomla! 3.

We will support Joomla! 2.5 in our extensions for the foreseeable future, but because there will be no more (security) updates for Joomla! 2.5, you should start planning and preferably move to Joomla! 3 somewhere in 2015. We will clearly communicate when our extensions drop support for Joomla! 2.5. At the moment I think it will be somewhere in the second half of 2015.

The Virtuemart cookbook: very decent book about Virtuemart 2.x

Book about Virtuemart 2This week I got the chance to have a look at a new book about Virtuemart 2, called “Building E-commerce Sites with VirtueMart Cookbook“. I was not expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised! The book actually explains everything in a way that is easy to understand even for less experienced users.

I liked the fact that the book is not limited to just a boring overview of Virtuemart with the technical facts, but included explanations about SEO (search engine optimization), analytics (with Piwik) and template frameworks (Gantry and Warp). It even has a chapter about Virtuemart alternatives like HikaShop
