Now that Joomla! 1.6 beta is released, different community members have posted video and text tutorials about the new features in Joomla! 1.6. One of those community members is Joomla! 1.6 lead developer Andrew-Eddie, which posted at least 9 video’s. In this post, you will find an overview of the most interesting Joomla! 1.6 video and text tutorials.
The tutorials are a great way to understand the changes in Joomla! 1.6, before you actually install it.
The Joomla! project has released version 1.5.18 and Joomla! 1.6 Beta 3.
For Joomla! 1.5: you can use Akeeba Backup to create a backup, then Sam’s Update Manager to update the Joomla! 1.5 websites you manage to 1.5.18. You can also read the tutorial on how to update a Joomla! 1.5 website, have a look at it here.
For Joomla! 1.6: this beta version is not for use on production websites! It is intended to be used for evaluation purposes only. You can install it to get to know the next great version of Joomla! and report any bugs you find to the Joomla! Bug Squad.
In our website statistics I noticed that some users are searching for a download link to the latest version of Joomla! 1.6. If you want to give Joomla! 1.6 pre-beta a test drive, there is a really easy way to get your hands on the download, just a click, no SVN clients necessary.

This month we released cciDEAL 2.2.1 as a bug fix version, which actually had just one major improvement: an all-new installation procedure! The Joomla! project has released version 1.5.17, containing several security fixes. After you use Akeeba Backup (also known as JoomlaPack) to create a backup, make sure to use Sam’s Update Manager to update the Joomla! websites you manage to this new version. If you are busy, Open Source Support Desk wouldn’t mind doing the Joomla! updating for you.
We just published a blog on how to update a Joomla! 1.5 website, have a look at it here.
For many Joomla! webmasters and developers, updating is a painful and complex business. But with a good procedure and the help of some awesome extensions, it doesn’t have to be. We have a certain procedure when updating our clients Joomla! websites, which makes sure that updating is quick, painless and without errors.
I want to share that procedure with you.
An indev extension is an extension we are considering, planning or already developing. Our indev (in development) extensions give you the chance to influence the functionality and scope of our new extensions.
“You love to give feedback? Great, we love to receive it!”
The last two years we used the web based project management software 5PM at Chill Creations. We primarily developed extensions and websites for clients, and the extensions cciDEAL and ccNewsletter which where available for a broader audience.
In the last months we started focusing on (commercial) extension development for the Joomla! community and our project management needs have changed because of that. Read on to see what project management systems we considered, what our wishes where and what system we will begin to test.
We started planning the first version of ccInvoices the other day, and I was curious to see what our [online invoicing] competition would be like. “Competition” is not just any other Joomla! extension offering invoicing functionality, but any web based application.
I found that there where many different flavors of invoicing/billing solutions, and some are really impressive! Find a list below with the few I liked most.
After working on this version for months, it is finally ready to be released! With 40+ issues investigated and fixed, its probably the most stable version of ccNewsletter 1.0.x ever. Time to upgrade!
ccNewsletter 1.0.7 is a bugfix release, also containing the security fix for 1.0.6 which we released last week. You can get it now in the downloads section.
