Joomla! 3 extension development tips and resources

How to update/upgrade Joomla! 1.5

Looking for an overview of Joomla! 3 extension developer information? Look no further! Just like the last time we needed to convert our Joomla! extensions to the latest Joomla! version, I have been collecting links and information about Joomla! 3 for our developers. Below, find our list of Joomla! 3 resources, covering the framework and interface (twitter bootstrap) changes in Joomla! 3.

The information can be used to convert Joomla! 1.5 and/or Joomla! 2.5 extensions to work under Joomla! 2.5 and 3. The Joomla! 2.5 extension development resources are actually a well visited article on our website, so I hope this version might be of use to all of you too!

Greatly improve the Joomla! 2.5 article manager

Improve Joomla! 2.5 article manager

Save yourself a lot of time by greatly improving the Joomla! 2.5 article manager in under 10 minutes! According to research, you will become more productive with a larger computer screen. I’m pretty sure this will also apply to the Joomla! WYSIWYG editor.

With this simple and free change you can increase the “port” of the editor to almost 4.5 times it normal size. Best of all: this is not a Joomla! core hack, it’s just a template override! Screenshots available.

ccOmniKassa 1.3: new extensions and better stability

ccOmniKassa, Rabo OmniKassa plugin for Joomla!

The new version of ccOmniKassa comes with new features that actually make Rabo OmniKassa a more stable platform and add Rabo OmniKassa plugins for new Joomla! extensions. ccOmniKassa 1.3.1 is a release candidate for experienced users. Other users can download the next bug fix release within a few weeks.

The extension can now better handle when Rabo OmniKassa makes unexpected API changes! Off course the people at the Rabobank should not change their API without notice, but since it happened twice now, we took precautions. It seemed to me its better to be safe than sorry.

Dutch Joomla! days 2013 announced

Dutch Joomla!Days 2013

The dates for the Dutch Joomla! Days 2013 are announced! The Dutch community will meet again on the weekend of 20 & 21 April 2013. As a Dutch company we are really happy with this news and are looking forward to being part of the event once again.  The conference is always professionally organised and well worth the investment for Joomla! enthusiasts and professionals.

The presentations by Dutch and international speakers are always very good and you will surely learn new things. I’m pretty sure Joomla 3.0 (probably 3.1 by then) will also get a lot of attention. Also, do not underestimate the value of meeting other Joomla professionals and enthusiasts face to face.

David-Andrew interviewed by JoomlaNL

David-Andrew/Chill Creations interviewLast October one of the Dutch Joomla! forums JoomlaNL was looking for a new Joomla! download extension, so I offered them ccDownloads. I was actually expecting that they would decline the offer because they needed a more “heavy duty” solution, and was surprised and happy when they decided our newest extension was exactly what they needed.

From one thing came another, and Wouter from JoomlaNL wanted to interview me. It was a delightful conversation and the result can be found on Joomla!NL (in Dutch) Extensie-ontwikkelaar: David-Andrew van Chill Creations

If you are using ccNewsletter, ccInvoices or any of our other Joomla! extensions on your Joomla! 1.5 website, it might be a good time to migrate them and the entire website to Joomla! 2.5.
